Play-Based Therapy

Play-Based Therapy

Play-Based Therapy & Emotion Regulation is offered for ages 6-12 years old

Helping Kids Manage Big Feelings

Kids don’t always have the words to explain what they’re thinking or feeling — but they do know how to play. Play-based therapy uses that natural language of childhood to help children work through emotions, challenges, and experiences in a way that feels safe and familiar to them. Through toys, art, storytelling, movement, and imagination, children can express themselves, build confidence, and begin to understand what’s happening inside their hearts and minds.

A major focus of play-based therapy is emotional regulation — helping kids recognize their feelings, understand where they come from, and learn what to do with them. Instead of shutting down, melting down, or acting out, children learn tools like calming strategies, coping skills, and ways to communicate their needs. Over time, they discover how to pause before reacting, problem-solve, and feel more in control of their emotions.

This type of therapy is especially helpful for children who struggle with anxiety, big emotions, changes at home, difficulty with peers, or behavior that seems “out of nowhere.” By combining connection, creativity, and evidence-based techniques, play-based therapy gives children a safe place to grow — and empowers them with skills they will use for a lifetime.
